Lionel Messi is not letting his goalscoring drought affect him as long asArgentina continue to win at the World Cup. The Albiceleste edged Nigeria 1-0 in their Group B opener before crushing South Korea 4-1 and the Barcelona star had lots of chances to score in both encounters but was denied by great goalkeeping.
"It's not a controversy," said Messi. "The important thing is that I had opportunities and although the ball didn't go in, finally it will." Heading in to the World Cup, the 22-year-old had endured difficult times in the Argentina shirt under coach Diego Maradona. They still averages less than a aim every three games at international level, a disappointing tally for the Fifa World Player of the Year.
"The aim will come," they said. "I am happy that Gonzalo Higuaín scored a hat-trick against South Korea and I am delighted for the team. They took a step forward with respect to our opening game and hopefully they will take another one in our final game."
Maradona's side top Group B heading in to Tuesday's final group game against Greece in Polokwane.
"We are in a nice position," said Messi. "We have very assured ourselves a place in the next round so everyone is quiet and looking forward to our next game against Greece."
